Boys Banquet @ the Grove Tuesday December 1st

Turn in your invitations as soon as possible.

CIF 2nd round @ Long Beach Wilson

The wolves season ended on Thursday.  We played a very strong Long Beach Wilson team, and we were not able to get enough breaks early to keep us in the game.  We eventually lost 13-6.  The boys never quit and despite the loss the season was still a success.  Stat leaders:  Josh Whisman (2 goals, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 field block), Aaron Soto (1 goal, 1 assist, 4 drawn ejections),  Moneer Essa (1 goal, 3 steals), Josh Ciupek (1 goal, 4 drawn ejections), Kyle Hamburger (1 goal), Ken Appel (13 saves)

CIF 1st round @ Home vs. San Marino Tuesday November 10th

We played well against San Marino for the first ever boys home CIF game at King.  We got off to a quick start being up 4-0 at the end of the 1st and then being up 10-1 at half.  Everybody got some playing time and we are looking forward to our next game against Long Beach Wilson.  Stat Leaders:  Josh Ciupek (4 goals, 6 assists, 1 steal, 2 drawn ejections), Moneer Essa (6 goals, 2 assists, 1 steal), Aaron Soto (2 goals, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 field block, 1 drawn ejection), Bobby Lawless (2 goals, 2 steals),  Kyle Hamburger (2 goals, 1 assist, 2 steals), Josh Whisman (1 goal, 2 assists), Ken Appel (6 assists, 1 steal)

Big VIII Finals Friday November 6th @ Roosevlet vs. Santiago @ 4:00

We were unable to reproduce our great effort from Wednesday.  We scored the first goal and were only down 1-2 at the end of the first, but we let the game get a way from there.  We eventually lost 5-13.  This was good experience for us being in the championship game for the first time.  Hopefully we will make it there next year and have a better showing.  Stat Leaders:  Bobby Lawless (1 goal, 1 assist),  Taylor Smith (1 assist, 1 steal), Aaron Soto (2 goals, 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 field block, 1 drawn ejection), Moneer Essa (2 goals, 1 steal, 1 drawn ejection), Josh Ciupek (1 steal, 3 drawn ejections), Ken Appel (15 saves)

Semifinal Round of the Big VIII Carousel at Sippy vs. Poly Wednesday.

King Beats Poly

The boys put everything together in this win.  The played hard, and they gutted out a victory.  Neither team lead by more than a goal.  The game was tied 1-1 at the end of the first.  Poly led 3-2 at Half.  The score was tied 3-3 at the end of the third.  We got our first lead of the game about 2 minutes into the fourth quarter.  Poly then tied the game a minute later.  We then put the winning goal in with about 3 minutes to play.  We were able to hold on from there for the victory.  This was a great effort by the whole team and the best we have played all year.  Stat Leaders:  Bobby Lawless (1 goal, 1 assist),  Aaron Soto (2 assists, 7 steals, 1 drawn ejection), Moneer Essa (3 goals, 1 steal, 1 drawn ejection), Josh Whisman (1 goal, 1 steal), Josh Ciupek (1 assist, 3 drawn ejections)

vs. Penninsula

Another tough game.  We gave some more energy in this game, we just were not able to make enough plays to win the game.  We lost 5-6 in heartbreaking fashion on a last second 5 meter shot.  Stat Leaders:  Taylor Smith (1 goal),  Bobby Lawless (1 goal, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 drawn ejections), Aaron Soto (3 assists, 2 steals, 1 drawn ejection), Kyle Hamburger (1 goal, 3 steals), Josh Whisman (1 goal), Josh Ciupek (1 goal, 1 steal, 2 drawn ejections), Kenneth Appel (16 saves)

vs. Poly

We played a lethargic Saturday morning game vs. Poly and lost 6-11.  We were never able to get a lot of energy and we looked tired throughout the whole game.  Despite looking tired we played better then our last effort against Poly.  We are hoping we can use the experience that we have gained to have a good effort against Poly on Wednesday.  Stat leaders:  Bobby Lawless (2 goals, 2 assists, 4 drawn ejections), Aaron Soto (1 goal, 2 steals), Kyle Hamburger (1 goal, 2 steals), Josh Ciupek (2 goals, 1 steal, 3 drawn ejections), Kenneth Appel (11 saves, 2 steals)

Tournament of Terror JV tournament at King Friday Oct. 30th and Sat. Oct. 31st.  Click here for brackets

The combined JV and F/S teams played a combined 8 games this weekend.  They had fun and gained a lot of experience.  They have one more game on Wednesday against Poly.  This will conclude an excellent season for them.

Varsity will play at Servite on Friday against Los Osos at 5:45 pm

We played well against Los Osos.  We lost focus for a 4 minutes stretch in the 3rd quarter that cost us the game.  We did some good things and hopefully gained some valuable experience in a 12-15 loss.  Stat leaders:  Josh Ciupek (6 goals, 1 assist, 4 drawn ejections), Josh Whisman (2 goals, 2 assists, 1 steal), Aaron Soto (2 goals, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 drawn ejection), Bobby Lawless (2 goals, 2 assists, 5 steals, 1 drawn ejection), Taylor Smith (3 assists, 1 steal), Kenneth Appel (14 saves, 1 steal)

First Round of the Big VIII carousel @ Roosevelt Wednesday Oct. 28th

We did what we needed to do to get into the semifinal round of the Big VIII carousel.  We beat Roosevelt 12-6.  We now have to use the tournament this weekend to prepare for Poly on Wednesday.  Stat Leaders:  Aaron Soto (6 goals, 6 steals, 1 drawn ejection), Bobby Lawless (2 goals, 1 assist, 2 steals), Kyle Hamburger (1 goal, 3 steals, 1 field block), Josh Whisman (1 goal, 4 assists, 1 steal, 1 drawn ejection), Josh Ciupek (2 goals, 4 assists, 1 steal), Ken Appel (5 saves, 1 steal, 2 assists)

Vs.  Servite

The boys gave all they had in this game.  This was a difficult game since we were missing some players due to injury and illness.  We were also coming off an overtime game two hours earlier where they boys had used a lot of energy.  Despite all these reasons for us to play poorly, we didn't.  The guys played some good water polo against a good team, we just did not have enough energy or the players to be able to pull of a victory.  We pulled to within one goal, 5-6, at the end of the third quarter, but eventually lost 6-10.  Stat leaders:  Josh Whisman (2 goals, 2 steals), Bobby Lawless (1 goal, 1 assist, 2 drawn ejection), Kyle Hamburger (1 goal, 3 assists, 3 steals), Moneer Essa (1 goal, 2 steals), Josh Ciupek (1 goal, 1 drawn ejection), Ken Appel (17 saves, 1 steal)

Vs. Troy

This was by far the best effort the boys have put forth this season.  We were down the whole game and were able to battle back and tie the game at the end of the fourth quarter.  We then scored the first two goals of overtime and were able to hold on for a one goal victory 8-7.  Stat leaders:  Kyle Hamburger (4 goals, 1 assist, 1 steal), Bobby Lawless (2 goals, 3 assists, 2 steals, 3 drawn ejections), Josh Whisman (3 assists, 3 steals, 1 field block), Josh Ciupek (2 goals, 3 steals, 2 drawn ejections), Ken Appel (20 saves, 1 steal)Sadly, Saibrah was not there to keep wonderful stats.

Big VIII JV tourney this Saturday at King.  Click here for brackets.

The boys JV team went 3-0 and won the Big VIII JV tourney over the weekend.  The played a dominating game on against Roosevelt coming away with an easy victory.  They then won a close game with Santiago, winning by 2.  Then in the championship game they were able to beat Poly by 2.

King vs. Roosevelt @ home Friday October 23rd

King finished off the first round of league with an 18-5 win over Roosevelt.  King got off to a fast start and was able to maintain a comfortable lead the entire game.  Stat Leaders:  Bobby Lawless (5 goals, 2 assists, 1 steal, 2 drawn ejections), Chris Flanary (1 goal, 1 assist, 1 steal, Brandon Enriquez ( 1 goal, 1 drawn ejection), Kyle Hamburger (2 goals, 1 assist, 2 steals), Moneer Essa (5 goals, 2 steals), Josh Whisman (3 goals, 4 assists), Josh Ciupek (1 goals, 4 assists, 1 steal, 2 drawn ejections), Kenneth Appel (11 saves, 2 steals, 1 assist)

The JV team won comfortably 14-3.

King vs. Poly @ Sippy Woodhead Wednesday October 21st

We did not play as well as we were hoping going into a big game with Poly.  We lost 11-4.  When we play them again we will have to play a better game to win.  Stat leaders:  Bobby Lawless (2 goals, 3 drawn ejections) Taylor Smith (1 goal, 1 steal), Moneer Essa (1 goal, 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 drawn ejection), Kenneth Appel (7 saves, 2 steals)

Congratulations to the JV and Frosh/Soph Teams.  Both teams won beating Poly for the first time.  Coach Paulos and his teams have been playing extremely well.

Wolves Finish 3rd in Murrieta Tourney

We beat Redlands 13-12 in the third place game of the Murrieta Tournament on Saturday.  It was the end of a five game tournament and we did not play our best.  Despite that we did enough to win.  That is what is important at this point of the season.  Can we dig down and find what it takes to win and we did that.  Hopefully this gives us some momentum going in to some tough league games this week.  Stat Leaders:  Aaron Soto (2 goals, 3 assists, 4 steals), Moneer Essa (5 goals, 2 steals), Josh Whisman (2 goals, 4 assists, 1 steal), Josh Ciupek (4 goals, 2 drawn ejections), Ken Appel (12 saves, 2 steals)

Vs. Santiago

We played Santiago for the second time this season.  We played a good game, but crucial mistakes allowed Santiago to pull away.  We lost the game 6-10.  A good effort, but we aren't taking solace in good efforts.  We want and need wins.  Stat Leaders:  Bobby Lawless (2 goals, 1 steal), Aaron Soto (1 goal, 2 assists, 5 steals, 1 field block, 3 drawn ejections), Moneer Essa (1 goal, 2 assists), Josh Ciupek (2 goals, 1 assist, 1 steal, 4 drawn ejections), Ken Appel (16 saves)

Vs. Great Oak

This was a high scoring game from the beginning.  At the end of the first quarter the we lead 5-3.  Scoring 5 goals is a good offensive effort, but we can't continue to give up 3 goals a quarter.  We were able to win 13-12, but it was probably closer then it should have been.  Stat Leaders:  Bobby Lawless (2 goals, 7 assists), Aaron Soto (2 goals, 1 assist, 1 steal, 4 drawn ejections), Moneer Essa (5 goals, 1 assist, 2 steals), Josh Whisman (3 goals, 1 steal), Josh Ciupek (1 goal, 2 assists, 1 drawn ejections), Ken Appel (12 saves)

The Varsity team is a #1 seed in the Murrieta Valley Varsity Tournament this weekend.

The varsity team was able to win the first two games of the Murrieta Tournament.  We will play at 4:00 Friday October 16th at Great Oak.  This game could put us into the championship round with the top four teams of the tournament, or if we lose we would be in the 5-8th place range.  Click on BRACKETS to see the schedule.

Summary of Games:

Vs. Lakeside

We got off to a quick start being up 5-2 at the end of the 1st quarter.  Second quarter was a little slow, but we still had a lead of 8-3 at half.  We were able to distance ourselves in the third quarter taking a 13-5 lead.  We eventually won the game 16-8.  Stat Leaders Bobby Lawless (3 goals, 1 assist, 4 steals), Josh Whisman (3 goals, 1 assist), Josh Ciupek (3 goals, 1 assist, 2 steals, 2 ejections drawn), Moneer Essa (2 goals, 1 assist, 3 steals), Cory Craghead (1 goal, 3 assists, 1 steal), Kenneth Appel (9 saves), Joey Moorman (5 saves, 1 steal)

King vs. Norco @ home Monday October 12th

We beat a shorthanded Norco team 13-4.  It was a game that we controlled from the outset.  We could have played better though.  We missed some counter attack opportunities and did not play well in the front court.  Hopefully we can work on some things at practice before playing 6 games in four days from Wed. to Sat.  Stat Leaders:  Aaron Soto (2 goals, 4 assists, 2 steals)  Josh Whisman (1 goal, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 field block), Josh Ciupek (3 goals, 2 steals, 1 drawn ejection), Bobby Lawless (1 goal, 2 assists, 3 steals), Moneer Essa (2 goals, 1 assist, 1 field block)

The JV team will be playing in the Arlington Varsity tournament on October 9th and 10th at Arlington High School

The JV team played well in the Arlington tournament.  They went 2-2 and took 7th place.

King vs. Centennial @ home Wednesday October 7th

We won 17-5.  The intensity was lacking compared to Monday' game, but we won the game, lots of people got playing and we are 2-1 in league.  We now have to start preparing for Norco on Monday.  Stat leaders:  Josh Ciupek (7 goals, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 field block, 2 drawn ejections); Danny Phabmixay (2 goals, 1 field block); Josh Whisman 2 goals, 5 assists, 1 field block); Moneer Essa 2 goals, 2 assists); Aaron Soto 2 goals, 3 assists, 2 steals); Ken Appel (10 saves, 2 assists).

Our JV team won 10-1.  We tried to play as many players as we could.  Our JV team is tied for 1st place in league at 3-0.

King @ Santiago Monday October 5th

This was an intense game throughout.  Although our defense was not perfect it did hold Santiago to only 6 goals.  This was a good defensive effort.  Unfortunately our offense was unable to score a lot and we suffered a 3-6 loss.  We need to be able to handle a drop a better and finish when we get the opportunities.  Stat leaders:  Moneer Essa (2 goals, 1 drawn ejection), Aaron Soto (1 assist, 2 steals, 1 field block, and 2 drawn ejections), Josh Ciupek (1 goal), Bobby Lawless (1 assist, 1 steal, 1 drawn ejection)

JV won 12-5.  We were able to use our speed to get up on the counter attack.  If we weren't able to score on the counter we were able to get the ball to 2 meters and get production from there.

F/S lost 4-5.  There were a lot of players to try and sub in for one game.  We were almost able to pull out a win, but it was a good effort.

King will open League Play @ Sippy Woodhead Pool against North Fri. Oct. 2

We opened up league play with a solid 14-3 victory over North.  We did a lot of good things during this game.  The counter attack looked good, and the defense was better.  We still have some work to do, but it looks like we are moving in the right direction.  Stat Leaders:  Moneer Essa (5 goals, 4 assists, 2 steals), Aaron Soto (4 goals, 1 assist, 4 steals, 2 drawn ejections), Bobby Lawless (2 goals, 3 steals, 2 drawn ejections), Josh Whisman (1 goal, 3 assists, 1 steal), Josh Ciupek (2 goals), Ken Appel (12 saves, 2 steals, 2 assists)

JV had a dominating victory winning 16-1.

King @ Palm Desert Tuesday Sept. 29th

Positives of this game are that we were only up by one entering the fourth quarter and we were able to pull away and win by three.  After having a really quick start and jumping up 2-0 we allowed Palm Desert to get back in the game and it was a battle from there.  Stat Leaders:  Josh Whisman (2 goals, 3 assists, 1 steal), Josh Ciupek (4 goals, 1 assist, 2 steals, 2 drawn ejections), Moneer Essa (3 goals, 2 assists, 1 steal, 2 drawn ejections), Aaron Soto (3 goals, 1 assist, 4 steals, 2 field blocks, 1 drawn ejection), Bobby Lawless (1 goal, 3 assists, 3 steals, 2 drawn ejections), Kenneth Appel (7 saves, 3 steals)

The JV team won 16-10.  Scoring 16 goals is a good thing.  We need to tighten up our defense a little bit and not give up 10 though.

The F/S team won 8-3.  This was a good effort both offensively and defensively.  Lots of guys got playing time and they played well.

Team Pictures will be Fri. Sept. 25th

King @ Great Oak Tuesday Sept. 22nd (4 levels)

Order of play Novice, Frosh/Soph, Varsity, Junior Varisty

The varsity team got off to another slow start against Great Oak.  We were down 3-2 after the first quarter.  We then played a good 2nd quarter outscoring Great Oak 4-0 to take a 6-3 halftime lead.  Great Oak never got closer then two goals after that and we eventually won 10-7.  The Novice team played well and won 3-1.  The Frosh/Soph team was the only team to lose.  They lost 5-7.  The JV team played well and won 10-2.  Varsity stat leaders:  Aaron Soto (3 goals, 2 assists 2 drawn ejections), Cory Craghead (1 goal, 3 assists), Moneer Essa (3 goals, 1 assist, 1 ejection drawn), Josh Ciupek (3 goals, 3 assists, 2 drawn ejections), Kenneth Appel (9 saves)

King Takes 15th in Poly Tournament

Vs. Troy

Our slow starts continued against Troy.  We only held a slight advantage of 2-1 at halftime.  We then had a good third quarter outscoring Troy 5-0 to take a commanding 7-1 lead into the fourth quarter.  7-1 ended up being the final score.  Stat leaders:  Aaron Soto (5 goals, 1 assist, 2 field blocks, 1 drawn ejection), Cory Craghead (2 assists, 1 steal, 1 field block), Josh Ciupek (2 goals, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 ejections drawn), Kenneth Appel (13 saves, 1 assist)

Vs. South Pasadena

Unfortunately this was a game that we could have won, but we let get away.  Although there were some mistakes that were made during the first three quarters we were playing well.  We entered the fourth quarter up 7-4.  During the fourth quarter we were unable to finish and gave up three goals going into overtime.  This was sudden death and our fourth quarter problems of scoring continued and we eventually lost 8-7.  Positives from this game is that we put ourselves in good positions, we now just need to finish.  Stat leaders:  Josh Ciupek (1 goal, 2 assists, 4 steals, 3 Ejections drawn), Josh Whisman (1 goal), Moneer Essa (1 goal, 1 assist, 1 steal, 4 Ejections drawn), Aaron Soto (3 goals, 1 assist, 2 drawn ejections), Bobby Lawless (1 goal, 2 assists, 1 drawn ejection), Kenneth Appel (13 saves, 1 assist)

King loses to Simi Valley Royal

Another slow start put us in a hole against Royal.  We were able to pull within one goal at 5-4, but made some mistakes that allowed them to pull away and win the game 10-6.  Hopefully we learned from this game and will use that knowledge in the future. Stat Leaders  (Aaron Soto (1 goal, 3 assists, 3 steals), Cory Craghead (1 goal, 1 assist, 1 steal), Logan Kennard (1 goal, 2 steals), Moneer Essa (1 goal, 1 steal, 1 drawn ejection), Josh Whisman (1 goal, 1 assist), Josh Ciupek (1 goal, 3 steals, 1 drawn ejection), Kenneth Appel (12 saves, 2 steals)

King Goes 1-1 on the first day of the Poly Tournament

Vs. Arroyo Grande

We started off a little slow again in the first quarter against Arroyo Grande being down 3-1.  We were able to tie the game by half at 4-4.  The third quarter was the best quarter that we have played all year outscoring AG 5-0 to take a 9-4 lead into the fourth quarter.  We eventually won 11-8.  Stat Leaders:  Josh Whisman (4 goals, 2 assists), Moneer Essa (2 goals, 1 assist), Josh Ciupek (2 goals, 2 ejections drawn), Kenneth Appel (8 saves)

Vs. Dos Pueblos

The second game we played a strong Dos Pueblos team.  We were out of sync, tired, and were not up to their level.  We tried to fight back and we did put some points on the board, but it was a bad effort.  We are hoping to rebound and have a good game against Royal Friday September 18th.  Stat Leaders:  Aaron Soto (2 goals, 3 assists, 2 drawn ejections),  Kyle Hamburger (2 goals, 3 steals), Moneer Essa (2 goals), Josh Ciupek (1 goal, 2 assists, 1 Ejection Drawn)

Poly Tournament begins September 17th

Game @ home September 14th vs. Vista Murrieta

We came out very well to start off the game against Vista Murrieta holding a 5-2 advantage after the 1st quarter.  Lost some intensity after the 1st quarter and the rest of the game was a grind.  Eventually we won 11-4.  Hopefully these first two games have gotten our early season jitters out because we will be playing some tough teams in the Poly tournament this weekend.  Stat leaders:  Moneer Essa (4 goals, 2 steals), Josh Ciupek (3 goals, 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 ejections drawn), Aaron Soto (2 goals, 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 field blocks, 2 drawn ejections), Cory Craghead (2 goals, 1 assist), Kenneth Appel (10 saves, 1 steal)

Frosh/Soph team gains valuable experience in Wolf Cup tournament

Our Frosh/Soph A team took 2nd in the Wolf Cup tournament over the weekend.  They lost 4-5 in the championship game.  Our B team also played well placing 7th.  These games gave us valuable experience at the beginning of the season

First Game September 10th @ Temescal Canyon

We came out sluggish in this game.  We were playing at practice speed when we needed to be at game speed.  Down 4-1 at the end of the 1st and down 7-4 with 1:30 left in the 2nd quarter were not the position that we would like to be in.  We rallied well though and went on a 6-0 run to take the lead 10-7.  We were then able to hold on for a 12-10 victory.

Stat Leaders:  Bobby Lawless (1 goal, 3 assists), Aaron Soto (1 goal, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 field block), Moneer Essa (4 goals, 1 drawn ejection), Josh Ciupek (5 goals, 1 assist, 1 steal, 3 drawn ejections), Kenneth Appel (8 saves). Great stats due to Saibrah White. She's awesome possum.

The JV and F/S teams both had great outings.  Defensively both teams were strong only giving up and and two goals respectively.  JV won 12-1 and F/S won 10-2.  All teams are 1-0.

Scrimmage September 8th @ Home vs. Temecula Valley

The scrimmage against Temecula Valley went very well.  We played four levels so everybody was able to play.  The varsity team did some good things, but still needed to clean up the counter attack and run a balanced offense.  All of the lower level teams played well.  A common theme through all levels seemed to be finish on the counter attack.  Our team speed looked good, but we need to make sure that we are putting the ball in the cage and finishing when we are open.  We are excited and looking forward to our first game on Thursday Sept. 10th.

The boys have gotten off to a good start the first week of practice.  We are still missing some key components to our team, but there has been a lot of hard work put in during this week.  The boys are tired and I am sure are looking forward to the weekend.

Mandatory Parent Meeting

August 26th 6:00 pm in the gym.  All fall sports will meet in the gym.  After that boys water polo will then move to B204 (Coach Rosa's Room) and have a meeting.
