3rd Place Finish In Inland Empire Tourney

The
girls started the second day of the Inland Empire Tournament with a tough game
against Mater Dei. Stephanie
Glendenning started the game out with two goals to get the Wolves a 2-1 lead
after the first period, but from that point on, King could not generate any
affective offense or stop the Monarchs on defense. The result was a 2-8 loss in
the semi-finals.
The
third place game was against Jurupa Valley High School. Last year the Cougars
shut-out the Wolves 4-0. This year was a different story. Abby
York started out the scoring during the second quarter. Katie
Johnson followed a minute and fifteen seconds later with the first of her
two goals. Cassie Luna scored just two
minutes into the third quarter to give the Wolves a 3-0 lead. With Lindsay
Nichols in the goal the
Wolves
had played great defense and held the Cougars scoreless. With some strong
outside shooting during the fourth period, the Cougars fought their way onto the
scored board and closed within one goal with just 50 seconds left in the game.
The Wolves played great defense as Jurupa Valley attacked with what could have
produced the game tying goal, Christin
Boebinger came up with a great steal, looked up, saw that the goalie was out
of the cage, and fired a shot from the opposite six yard line. While the shot
did not hit the back of the net, it did float in to give King a two goal win and
the third place trophy.
Girls 2-0 On First Day of Inland Empire Tourney
The
Wolves opened their Inland Empire Tournament by playing themselves into the
semi-finals with a sweep during the first day. They beat Pacific 8-3 behind the scoring
of Stephanie Glendenning, Abby
York, and Cassie Luna each with two
goals Becca
and Christin
each had one. In the second game against San Gorgonio,
Stephanie lead the Wolves
with three, Cassie scored two, while Abby added one in the 6-3 victory. Both
games saw Lindsay Nichols play
outstanding defense in the cage. Their semi-final game will be played on
Saturday, January 12, at 9:30am at Valley
View High School.
