Ninth Ranked Girls Come Up Short In Playoff Against Murrieta Valley

After finding out that the team was ranked ninth in division five CIF, the Wolves traveled to Murrieta Valley to take on the Nighthawks for the third time this season. Unfortunately, after splitting the first two games, Murrieta Valley came away with the win to claim the Southwestern League third place entry into the CIF playoffs. The Nighthawks started out strong, opening a two goal lead after the first quarter. During the second quarter, Abby York turned her guard at 2-meters and drew a four meter shot, which she scored. Katie Johnson scored with three minutes left in the period to end the half with King down 2-4.

The Wolves kept the lead at two through the third period a goal by Stephanie Glendenning. During the final period, King was outscored two to one. The Wolves' lone goal was scored by Katie Johnson. The game ended with the Wolves down 4-7 and only the hope of an at-large bid into CIF.

Lightning Strikes Against Murrieta Valley

On the attack.JPG (72159 bytes)After two lack luster games, the Wolves set one goal for their game against Murrieta Valley: have fun. They did and they won. Abby York opened the game with a goal on a 4-meter shot that she drew on a great turn at 2-meters. Unfortunately, the Wolves could not contain the Nighthawks and ended the quarter down 1-2. Murrieta scored again during the second to take a 3-1 lead, but Christin Boebinger scored her first goal of the game with one second left in the half. The Wolves were down 2-3 with two quarters to play.

Stephanie scored on a man-up situation to close the gap to one goal. In a scene that was oddly familiar, the Wolves called time out with nine seconds left, ran a last second play, Stephanie shot, missed and then Christin attacked the goalie, causing her to put the ball into her own goal, tying the game at six each. It was Christin's second goal scored with only one second remaining on the clock of the

Strong defense.JPG (58337 bytes)During the first overtime period Murrieta found the goal to take a lead, but during the second overtime period, Christin fired a shot from outside to tie the game with eleven seconds left in the period. That goal sent the game into sudden victory overtime.

Stephanie stole the ball off the opening sprint, kept inside water, and drew a 4-meter. Abby closed the game just like she started it by scoring the 4-meter shot to win the game. The final score was 8-7, Wolves. Click here for STATS

JV Game Called Early

Lightning.JPG (5535 bytes)The JV game never really had a chance to play itself out. After the first quarter, the score was tied at one each with King's goal being scored by Sami Chalfy. The second period had the Nighthawks up 4-2 after a goal by Meghan Richli and a minute to play. After lightning was spotted in the area the game was called for the safety of both teams. The score stands at 4-2 in favor of Murrieta Valley.

Wolves vs. Nighthawks = Great Game

In what is beginning to take shape as a great rivalry, King and Murrieta Valley battled in the pool once again. Both teams play a classic style of water polo, both teams have talent, and both teams come to play.

The first quarter had the Wolves down 2-0 before Stephanie Glendenning found the goal with a great backdoor move to end the quarter King down 1-2. The second period saw much of the same strong defense as the first period. Cassie Luna scored one of her Wolf high three goals to keep King competitive. The half ended with King down 4-2.

During the third quarter, the Nighthawks opened up a five goal lead before Cassie scored her second goal to close the gap to end the period with Murrieta Valley up 7-3. The battle raged on as neither team could close or open the four goal gap. Abby York scored her only goal of the game and Cassie scored her last goal on a great cross pass from Stephanie on a man up situation. The game ended with the score 5-9. The loss takes King's record to 3-4, and 1-3 in league. For stats click HERE.

JV's Start To Show Improvement

Playing an almost rookie, freshman lineup, the JV stepped up their game to play a strong Nighthawk team. Meghan Richli scored the first Wolf goal during the first period. Her second goal came two periods later. While the Wolves played hard and showed some huge improvements, they were out played and outscored 9-2.
