2007-08 Season SummaryAfter a tough start, losing their first four games, the Wolves completed a fairly successful season. The girls had a fairly successful Arroyo Grande Tournament, placing 4th overall. They also won the consolation bracket of the 5-counties tournament. After losing to North early in the season and once in the first round of league they finished the season with two straight wins over the Huskies to qualify for CIF as the third place team from the Ivy League They made it through the first round of CIF only to meet the second seed team, Ayala, in the second round. King Goes 3-1 In Final Round of League; Qualify For CIF2/9/08 - The Wolves started their second round of Ivy League play with a 7-4 win over La Sierra. The next game was an expected loss to number one ranked Poly. That brought up the league final against North. The Wolves had to win or their season was over. Up by four goals with about four minutes to go in the game, the Wolves fell victim to inexperience and gave up four goals to the Huskies and saw the game tied at eight with one second left on the clock. On the following line-up, the ball was passed to Ashley Antonissen, who took an immediate shot that dropped over the goalies head and went into the cage. King walked away with a close 9-8 win and the opportunity to continue their season. Saturday, the Wolves and Huskies met again at King for the third place playoff game. In a tightly fought game, the Wolves again found themselves down 3-2 with a quarter to go. Scoring two unanswered goals in the final period, King came away with the win and the right to represent the Ivy League in CIF. Wolves Finish First Round of League Play1/24/08 - King finished their first round of Ivy League play with a 2-3 record. With wins over La Sierra and Ramona and losses to Poly, Arlington, and North. The second round begins next week. Wolves Take Consolation Championship In 5-Counties Tournament1/14/08 - King lost their opening game to Chaparral and then ran the table winning their last four games. After losing a well played game 4-10 Thursday, the Wolves beat Norco 14-3 and Arroyo Valley 8-3 on Friday. The first win allowed them to stay at their home pool for the entire tournament. On Saturday, they beat Centennial in a tough defensive battle and then ended the day with a win over Redlands East Valley. The wins bring King's record to 13-8. The tournament also brings the non-league part of the season to a close. King Beats La Sierra in League Opener1/10/08 - Bryna Grinyer and Ashley Antonissen each scored three goals in a 9-4 win over the visiting Eagles of La Sierra High School. After two questionable quarters that ended in a 2-2 tie, the Wolves jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the third quarter and never looked back. Andrea Antonissen had 16 saves in the goal to lead the defense. The win brings King's record to 1-0 in league and 8-6 overall. King Takes Surprising 5th in a Wet Arroyo Grande Tournament1/7/08 - After a very fast four hour trip from King to Nipomo High School and a great lunch, King got a good start in the tournament with a 8-1 win over Atascadero. The skies opened up half-way through the first game and never let up until well after midnight. Even with soaking wet gear, the team put themselves in a great position for a good showing in the tournament with a 7-1 victory over Costa Mesa. The semi-final game saw the Wolves take on the Sharks from Malibu at Arroyo Grande High School. Unfortunately, the Wolves couldn't generate the offense needed and lost 2-4. With the win, they earned a good night's sleep and a filling breakfast. After some time to digest their food, they played Los Altos and won 5-3 in a hard fought battle. The win gave them the opportunity to play for fourth place. Again, the Wolves ended up on the short side of the scoreboard to a VERY strong Rio Mesa team, losing 7-3. The team was lead by Ashley Antonissen who had eleven goals, Lina Omary who added five goals of her own, and Jamison Mahar who contributed three more. Lauren Bartlett lead the team in the field with some great 2m defense, while Andrea Antonissen played a very good tournament in the goal. Wolves Win at Home12/12/07 - The Wolves were able to put together a great game against the visiting Cajon High School Cowboys. Behind six goals by Ashley Antonissen, the Wolves took the lead early in the first quarter and never looked back. Andrea Antonissen had 14 saves in the game to hold Cajon to one goal. The win brings King's record to 3-5. Wolves Have Tough Week12/8/07 - Today ended a tough week for the Wolves. Opening the week with a loss to number one ranked DV team, Murrieta Valley, they traveled to take on number one ranked DII team, host Villa Park in the opening round of the Villa Park tournament. The second round saw a loss to Upland, followed by another loss to Santa Monica. Both games were close, but King found them on the short side of the score. Saturday brought the only win of the week with a victory over Savanna. The last game of the tournament saw a familiar team on the other side of the pool; North. Unfortunately, the Wolves were unable to stay with the Huskes this time. Girls Open Season With Win11/28/07 - The girls took on the Huskies from Centennial High School in Corona and came away with a 7-3 win. Ashley Antonissen lead the team with five goals while Andrea Antonissen had eight saves in the goal. Successful Summer Season8/2007 - The girls completed a very successful summer by winning the Cajon Tournament on July 15-16. They pulled together and beat four teams in the process of winning.
