Banquet March 10th at Canyon Crest Country Club 7:00pm Game Schedule February 17th CIF 1st Round game at Mater Dei @ 5:00 The season came to an end against Mater Dei losing 7-14. Mater Dei is a very good team and we were not up to speed from the beginning. Unfortunately in a win or go home situation, when you start to get down, it is tough to lift yourself back up. As a whole the season was a success. We won 21 games and the girls improved a lot.
February 15th CIF Wild Card game @ Home vs. Newbury Park @ 5:00 We were able to pull out a victory to advance to the next round of CIF. We got off to a slow start. We only scored one goal in the first quarter and 2 goals in the second quarter. We were down 1-3 before coming back to tie the game at half 3-3. Our offense then played better scoring 7 goals in the second half. We showed some signs of doing some really good things during this game. We just need to be more consistent and play a full 4 quarters.
February 10th League Finals vs. Roosevelt @ Corona @ 5:45 pm We beat Roosevelt by a score of 8-4. This secured 3rd place in the Big VIII league. Hopefully this win will give us some confidence going into CIF.
February 8th Carousel Game Against Poly @ Sippy Woodhead Pool @ 3:15 (JV and F/S's last game) Unfortunately we couldn't get things going early. This put us in a big hole that we weren't able to climb out of. We didn't quit and pulled within 3 at 6-9, but were not able to get any closer. We lost 6-9.
February 3rd @ Home vs. Corona We beat Corona 21-5. This puts us in the semifinals of the Big VIII carousel. It will be a rematch between King and Poly on Tuesday.
February 1st Game @ Norco We played well and everybody got a lot of playing time. We won 19-2. Varsity Tournament January 28th and 29th Brackets We placed 5th place at the Bonita tournament. We gained some valuable experience. It seemed as if the girls played better every game. I hope that this trend continues through the last few weeks of season. January 29th game @ Las Flores Park vs. Los Osos This was probably our best half of water polo that we have played all year long. Everybody was swimming hard, involved on offense and on defense. Madison blocked two 5 meters in the 1st half, and we were able to take a 6-0 lead at half. Unfortunately we followed that great half up with a poor half of water polo. We did enough to hold on to the victory though. We won 9-8.
January 29th game @ Las Flores Park vs. Ayala Despite another slow start we got the victory. The first half we were still playing passively. It didn't help that we got countered early off of some missed shots that gave Ayala some easy goals. We trailed 3-4 at halftime. The 3rd quarter we looked like a different team. We outscored Ayala 4-1 to take a 7-5 lead into the 4th quarter. We were attacking and being aggressive. We played well in the 4th quarter as well, eventually winning 9-6.
January 29th game @ Las Flores Park vs. San Marcos This was an 8 am game and we played like it. We were sluggish, not aggressive, and slow to react to many things. The positive is we kept it competitive, but we weren't able to catch up to them after our slow start. We eventually lost 6-9.
January 28th game @ Claremont vs. Claremont We started off all right in this game leading 5-2 mid second quarter. Unfortunately we started committing a lot of turnovers and allowed them back in the game to where the score was 6-5 at half. We played some better defense in the second half only giving up one goal and we pulled out the victory 9-6.
January 28th game @ Claremont vs. Arroyo Valley Won by forfeit Booster Club Meeting Jan. 27th at 6:00 pm January 27th game @ Home vs. North We started off well and were in control of the whole game. We beat North 21-5.
January 25th game @ Roosevelt This game was all right. We got the win. Roosevelt is probably the 4th place team in league so it was important for us to beat them. We were consistent with each quarter. We were up 3-1 at the end of the first, 6-2 at half, 9-4 at the end of the third and we won the game 13-5.
January 20th game @ Home vs. Poly We had our opportunities during this game. At the end of the first quarter we were down 4-3. After that point in time neither team had a lead of more than one goal. We were able to take the lead in the third quarter, then they tied the game at the end of the third. We were able to take the lead with a little over 2 minutes left in the fourth. Unfortunately Poly tied the game with 20 seconds left in the game. The game went to overtime. Poly scored, we answered, Poly scored, we answered, Poly scored and then we ran out of time to get another equalizer. It was a great game, where we gained some important experience. The final score was 10-11.
Varsity Tournament brackets 1/13 - 1/15 This tournament gave us some great experience. We played the #1 team in division three and were right there with them. We won two other games by 1 goal (one of them being in over time) and a third game by two goals. I hope that we can take this momentum into the remainder of our league games.
Game Saturday @ Murrieta Valley vs. La Serna La Serna was another team that we had beaten earlier in the year. It was the 5th game of the tournament and the girls were tired. Despite that I think we played some of our best water polo. Our offense got going again, especially our center play. We got up on the counter. This allowed our offense to setup well and in turn get us good offensive opportunities. We slowed down a little bit in the 4th quarter and allowed them back into the game. We showed some good mental toughness though and scored to give us some breathing room. We were able to win the game 12-10.
Game Saturday @ Murrieta Valley @ 9:00 am vs. Temescal This was another defensive effort. We only gave up 5 goals in 34 minutes of game time. We won 6-5 in overtime. We lead the majority of the game, but we gave up a goal at the last second to allow them to tie. This goal could have destroyed our confidence, but we rebounded and played well in the OT periods and won the game.
Game Friday @ King vs. Vista Murrieta @ 6:00pm 1/14 This game was a very slow, defensive game. We had beaten Vista Murrieta earlier in the year. They played a very conservative game, that did not allow us to get up on the counter attack. We struggled in the half court so we did not score a lot of goals. The good thing is that our defense played well and held them to only 3 goals. We won 4-3.
Game vs. St. Lucy's @ 7:00 pm @ King 1/13 There were many positives throughout this game. St. Lucy's is the #1 ranked team in Division III. We were down 3-2 at the end of the 1st quarter, 9-7 half way through the 3rd quarter. We were competetive the whole game. Unfortunately we missed some opportunities that could have given us a better chance to win. Although we have had some tough games lately, I am seeing improvement and that is what we are looking for. These tough games will help us in the long run. We eventually lost 14-10.
Game vs. La Sierra @ King @ 4:00 1/13 We did what we needed to do to beat La Sierra and advance to the next round of the tournament. We won 18-4.
January 12th game @ Montebello @ 3:15 This was a long drive to play a good team. We started off the game well. We were tied 3-3 until Montebello scored in the last 3 seconds of the first quarter to put us down 3-4 at the end of the 1st. Scoring three goals in the first quarter was a good offensive output. Defensively we needed to play some better positioning and work a little bit harder. The second quarter did not go well for us. We gout outscored 4-0 to be down 8-3 at halftime. The first five minutes of the 3rd quarter we played well again. We were only down 10-5 with two minutes left in the third quarter. Montebello called a timeout because we were gaining some momentum. Off of this timeout Montebello scored 3 goals to end the quarter that demoralized us for the rest of the game. We ended up losing 17-6.
January 11th Game @ Corona @ 3:15 Although we didn't start off as well as we would have liked to, only leading 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, we finished strong. In the 2nd quarter we scored 8 goals and we scored 9 goals in the 3rd quarter to take a 19-3 lead into the fourth quarter. Eventually winning 24-4. January 9th @ 11:30 pictures at Kristin Moorman's House JV / F/S tournament @ King 1-7-11 and 1-8-11 We got a lot of great experience this weekend. Our two JV teams went a combined 7-1 over the weekend. The only loss was when our two teams played each other. Game @ Home vs. Santiago 1-6-11 We didn't have a great first half vs. Santiago. We maintained our composure though and played a better 2nd half. Hopefully we learned some things and can apply that knowledge to some later games. We lost 14-6.
Game vs. Centennial @ 6:00 @ Santiago 1-4-11 After a long break due to the winter holiday we got off to a good start vs. Centennial. We lead 4-0 after the 1st quarter and 11-0 at half. We eventually won 16-3. This was a league game so hopefully this gets us off on the right track. Stat Leaders: Alia McMorris (4 goals, 2 steals), Kristin Moorman (3 goals, 4 steals), Destene Albers (4 goals, 2 assists, 5 steals, 1 drawn ejection), Mary Doran (1 goal), Felicia Sloneker (2 assists), Cydney McMorris (1 goal, 4 assists), Jaclyn Myers (1 goal, 3 assists), Ruti Zwick (1 assist, 1 steal), McKenzie Kelly (1 goal, 2 assists, 2 steals), Nikki Bell (1 goal, 2 steals), Cassidy May (7 saves).
Alumni Game 12-30-10 We had a good time during our alumni game. There were ten alumni that were there. Andrea Antonissen (2010), Danika Bell ('10), Jamison Mahar ('10), Bre Ritter ('10), Lauren Bartlett ('10), Alyssa Garside ('10), Bryna Grinyer ('09), Alysha McCarry ('09), Ashley Antonissen ('09), and Dayna Van Gorder ('04). Lauren Hill ('09) and Lina Omary ('09) were also in attendance but did not play. It was a tight game throughout with the alumni pulling out the victory in the 4th quarter 8-7. Thank you to the alumni for coming out. Redlands Tournament 12-16-10 Brackets Game @ Home vs. Vista Murrieta 12-15-10 We played a very solid game vs. Vista Murrieta. Due to injury, illness, etc. we were missing quite a few of our players. Despite us missing players the girls stepped up and played great. Our defense was outstanding. We only gave up one goal in the first half, and only 2 goals through three quarters. We have been doing a lot of good things here this first part of the season. I am excited to see how everything progresses after the break. Stat Leaders: Destene Albers (6 goals, 3 steal, 1 drawn ejection), Cydney McMorris (1 assist, 3 steals), Kristin Moorman (1 assist, 4 steals, 2 drawn ejections), Nikki Bell (1 assist, 2 steals), Krystina McCarry (1 goal, 2 assists, 1 steal), Alia McMorris (1 goal, 2 assists, 4 steals), Madison Morris (5 saves). Villa Park Tournament 12/9-12/11 Brackets Rosary @ Huntington Beach 2:30 pm This game was a struggle. We were missing some of our starters due to injury and to other requirements. We took a lead at the start of the game 4-1, but Rosary caught us 4-4. We then played a good third quarter outscoring Rosary 4-1 to take a 8-5 lead. We finished well winning the game 10-6. We took 19th place in the tournament and gained some valuable experience. Stat Leaders: Alia McMorris (3 goals, 2 assists, 2 drawn ejections), Kristin Moorman (3 goals, 2 assists, 3 steals, 1 drawn ejection), Destene Albers (2 goals, 4 steals, 1 field block, 1 drawn ejection), Felicia Sloneker (1 goal, 2 assists, 1 drawn ejection), Ruti Zwick (1 goal, 1 steal), Madison Morris (10 saves)
Dana Hills @ Huntington Beach 11:00 am This was a very competitive game from the beginning. We were trailing 2-3 at the end of the 1st period. We were never able to catch Dana Hills, but we stayed with them the entire game. Unfortunately too many turnovers and some defensive lapses cost us. We lost 7-10. I was happy with the effort and I think this experience will help us in the future. Stat Leaders: Kristin Moorman (2 goals, 3 steals, 3 drawn ejections), Felicia Sloneker (1 goal, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 field block), Destene Albers (2 goals, 3 steals), Mary Doran (1 goal, 1 drawn ejection), Krystina McCarry (2 assists, 1 steal), Alia McMorris (1 goal, 1 drawn ejection), Maddison Morris (11 saves).
Troy @ Villa Park 12-10-10 @ 6:20 We started off at a great pace in this game. We scored 5 goals, we were aggressive and we were doing some great things. Unfortunately our defense didn't do as well as our offense. We were in the lead the entire game, but the largest lead we had was a 3 goal difference. We were able to hold on and won 13-12. Stat Leaders: Kristin Moorman (4 goals, 1 assist, 1 steal), Cydney McMorris (2 goals, 1 steal), Destene Albers (4 goals, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 field blocks, 1 drawn ejections), Ruti Zwick (4 assists, 1 steal), McKenzie Kelly (1 assist, 2 steals, 1 field block), Mary Doran (1 goal, 2 drawn ejections), Alia McMorris (2 goals, 2 drawn ejections), Madison Morris (7 saves).
Cerritos @ Villa Park at 3:50 12-10-10 This was our best defensive effort of the year. We lead 7-2 at half and we won 9-4. We were able to execute our game plan and put together a good win. Stat Leaders: Destene Albers (5 goals, 7 steals, 1 field block), Mary Doran (1 goal, 1 steal, 2 drawn ejections), Felicia Sloneker (1 assist, 2 steals), Cydney McMorris (2 assists), Kristin Moorman (1 goal, 1 assist), Ruti (2 goals, 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 drawn ejection), McKenzie Kelly (1 assist, 1 steal), Krystina McCarry (1 assist, 2 steals), Madison Morris (7 saves, 5 steals, 1 assist).
Palos Verdes @ Villa Park at 5:30 12-9-10 Another slow start to this game. Palos Verdes is the defending division II CIF champion. They have some strong players and they all pressed very well. We struggled with the pressure early in the game. This lead to turnovers, which lead to easy counter goals for them. Once we settled down and controlled the ball we played much better. We only allowed 3 goals in the 2nd half. Hopefully this is another game that we can learn from and move forward. We lost 8-11. Stat Leaders: McKenzie Kelly (2 goals, 1 steal), Destene Albers (3 goals, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 drawn ejections), Felicia Sloneker (1 goal, 2 assists, 2 steals), Cydney McMorris (1 goal, 1 steal), Alia McMorris (1 goal, 2 drawn ejections), Madison Morris (6 saves).
Game @ Home vs. La Serna 12-8-10 We made some big improvements from last week. We had a good week of practices and it showed. Although we gave up 11 goals, our defensive improvements were what won this game. The defensive intensity was there and this lead to us forcing some turnovers and getting up on the counter attack. We took the lead early in the game and never gave it up. Now that we have found that defensive intensity, we will have to work on some technical aspects of the defense. We have a big weekend this weekend so hopefully this will get us off to a good start. Stat Leaders: Mary Doran (3 goals), Felicia Sloneker (1 goal, 2 assists, 1 drawn 5 meter), Destene Albers (6 goals, 3 assists, 5 steals, 1 drawn ejection, 3 drawn 5 meters), Kristin Moorman (2 goals, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 drawn ejection), Ruti Zwick (3 assists, 1 steal, 1 drawn ejection), Krystina McCarry (1 goal, 1 assist, 5 steals), Maddison Morris (9 saves, 4 steals).
Bonita JV tournament Friday and Saturday 12/3 - 12/4 Brackets Our JV girls did well in the tournament. They lost to the eventual champ by 1 goal. The won their other three games taking 3rd in the tournament.
Game @ Home vs. Temescal Canyon 11-30-2010 Although I would love to win every game, I believe this game will be very beneficial for us. I think we learned a lot and we can grow from this loss. We were not up to speed and it showed. Temescal Canyon pressured us in to mistakes and they were able to take advantage of those mistakes. We did some positive things, but we need to improve our defense and be more consistent. Stat Leaders: Destene Albers (3 goals, 2 assists, 3 steals, 3 drawn ejections), Mary Doran (1 goal), Jaclyn Myers (2 assists, 3 steals), Kristin Moorman (2 goals, 2 drawn ejections), McKenzie Kelley (2 assists, 1 steal, 1 field block), Alia McMorris (2 goals, 2 steals), Maddison Morris (7 saves, 2 steals).
