Swimming NewsCoach Masi Takes Over Swim ProgramAfter 25 years of coaching swimming at the high school level, Coach Williamson has stepped aside from the swim program to spend more time with his family and pursue other personal goals. Coach Leisha Masi will taking over the reins of the program for the upcoming season. She comes to the program with a broad knowledge of aquatics. Coach Masi swam with RAA 1981-1993, --- and through college. She was part of the Junior National Team and the athlete representative for Southern California Swimming . She swam for Poly High School from 1990-1993 where she was an Ivy League Champion, CIF finalist, the 1993 Poly Athlete of the Year, and the Citrus Belt Athletic Association Athlete of the Year Coach Masi graduated and then swam for UC Irvine where she was a Big West finalist in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and selected Rookie of the Year. After one year at UCI she transferred to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where she was Big West Conference finalist in the 500, the 1650, and the 400 IM along with being three time team captain. After graduating from college she swam from Long Beach to Catalina during the summer of 1998 with several other swimmers. She went into coaching during the summer of 1995 when she coached at RAA. Along with several club coaching positions in the Santa Barbara/SLO area, she also coached at San Luis Obispo High School 1997, was head coach, Canyon Springs High School in 2001, and helped Poly win a CIF championship in 2002. She is an assistant cross country coach at Martin Luther King High School and has finished seven marathons. She is engaged to be married to Bruce (a PGA tour caddy) during this summer and has a cat named Cali. She loves antiques and likes to decorate in a vintage style. She is looking forward to the season and working with the athletes. Swim Season StartsThe swim season opened on Tuesday, February 14 with a meeting in room A310 to meet the Coach Masi and review expectations and goals.
